Face liposuction may be the reason why certain men and women drop years off their faces almost overnight.
Liposuction is well known today as the best method of cosmetic surgery. It is comparatively inexpensive, it is safe and it has an almost non-existent recovery period.
What is Face Liposuction?
Contrary to what the name suggests, face liposuction actually covers the cheeks, jaws and neck apart from the face. Liposuction by definition means sucking out fat. Hence, face liposuction would indicate face contouring by removing excess fat from the areas which make the face and neck look older.
How is Face Liposuction done?
The surgeon removes fat from the areas where fat usually accumulates around the face - the cheeks, under the jaw and the upper part of the neck. This is done through extremely tiny openings or incisions made inside the nose, under the chin or mouth corners so as to avoid scarring.
Liposuction does not involve removal of excess skin. Hence, this procedure is successful only when the skin of the patient is very elastic. Otherwise, it will need surgical removal of the folds of the skin, which is another procedure entirely.
Fat removal with the help of face liposuction actually helps in re-contouring the face and thereby restoring a youthful look. The sagging of the skin post face liposuction should be controlled. This can be done essentially by avoiding too much exposure to the sun and pollution and excessive drying of the face.
The Risks of Face Liposuction
There is almost no risk involved in face liposuction. This is because the fat around this area is usually less and it is easily removed.
However, there are a few minor risks among which lumpiness of the face is the most irritant. Sometimes when the fat is removed too fast, the face loses its smooth contours and develops a lumpy appearance. This can be avoided by using very small cannulae to extract the fat.
The other risk involved is infection. Since the face will have very small incisions, there will be a recovery period when there will be a moderate amount of fluid retention (anesthesia and blood); this fluid may get infected if the patient discontinues the antibiotics prescribed and/or does not followed the prescribed post-surgery care.
Face liposuction may be the most convenient answer many aging individuals are looking for, to regain their confidence and youth.
